We use and recommend Adobe software, some of which were the excellent Macromedia programs which have been further developed by Adobe since they took over Macromedia.

The full Photoshop is great, of course, although there is a starter version, Photoshop Elements, which gives you many of the features of the full version, and is certainly perfectly suitable for most home requirements.
